New Ulm major league prospect Jamie Hoffmann will have a familiar face on the coaching staff of the Los Angeles Dodgers in spring training. The Dodgers have named Don Mattingly as new skipper. He selected Tim Wallach as his third base coach.
Wallach managed Albuquerque last year and had Jamie Hoffmann playing the the most games of any player.
The Albuquerque Isotope's baseball team made the Wallach announcement with the following release on its website.
"Tim Wallach, who managed the Albuquerque Isotopes in 2009 and 2010, has been named third base coach by the Los Angeles Dodgers, joining the coaching staff of new Dodgers manager Don Mattingly.
"In his two seasons at the 'Topes' helm, Wallach went a combined 152-135 (.530) while guiding the Isotopes to back-to-back winning seasons for the first time in team history. In 2009, his first year managing at Triple-A, Wallach led Albuquerque to a franchise-best 80-64 record and a PCL American Southern Division Championship. For his efforts that season, Wallach was named PCL Manager of the Year and was awarded Best Manager Prospect by Baseball America.
"Wallach joins the staff of first year manager Mattingly that includes Trey Hillman (bench coach), Jeff Pentland (hitting coach), Rick Honeycutt (pitching coach), Davy Lopes (first base coach), and Manny Mota (coach). This will be the second time Wallach is a part of the Dodgers Major League staff, as he served as hitting coach for manager Jim Tracy in 2004 and 2005.
