CRT RECEIVES MICROFILM READER/PRINTER

Community Research Technology, Inc. (CRT) has moved closer to being a self-sufficient research operation with the delivery of a microfilm reader/printer April 17, 2009. The unit is a combination film reader and printer and will be temporarily located at the New Ulm Sports Central workshop.
Funding for this equipment and others such as computers and film and slide scanners has come initially from memberships in the organization and substantial grants from baseball organizations and several commercial sources.
The unit allows the developers of the sports central website to begin organizing the necessary research and validation of information regarding sports history for the area. The service area is defined as the same as served by the New Ulm school district. Sports Central has access to thousands of sports photos, negatives and summaries from a number of sports history collectors of the area.
One of the goals of CRT, Inc. is to acquire a digital reader/printer for the community and to assist upgrades of microfilm research equipment for the area. Requiring substantial financial resources must acquire, the digital project will aid family history and sports history research.
When the database system on the website is ready to accept information and photos. CRT, Inc. will seek support volunteers to assist in the preservation project. South Central College at Mankato is providing design and technical assistance as a community service project. The system will allow volunteers to transmit photos and data to the virtual sports museum on the internet. Persons interested in learning how they can help are urged to contact nusc@newulmtel.net.
