ANNUALS, SCRAP BOOKS NEEDED FOR BOWLING HISTORY

ANNUALS, SCRAP BOOKS NEEDED FOR BOWLING HISTORY

A minor project turned into a major undertaken as historic bowling has made its way into the archives of New Ulm's sports history. Despite being able to enter over 200 items (some as far back 2008), several reference pieces are desired.

New Ulm Sports Central has not located a personal copy of the 1956-57 bowling annual and has found that scrapbooks prepared by bowlers very often provide historic data or at least solve some of the unknown identification that is required for efficient entry of archiving material into the system. NUSC will photo copy important information and return the scrapbook if desired. Additional copies of the 1956 and 1958 bowling annuals are also sought.

Jim Bastian's request for the list of 300-games invigorated the rush of bowling information. From the personal files of Don Brand and Herb Schaper plus New Ulm Journal and Concordia Lanes material, pictures and articles and lots of stats have been entered.

Part of the project has been to create a list of all the leagues which at one time bowled in New Ulm to serve as a reference resource. work is underway to establish the 700/600 clubs for men and women and continue to assemble pictures of all those who achieved high honors. Tournaments of the 1930's-1950's for women bowlers have been entered although information for some years is not available.

Among the records archived so they can be searched on this website (see left side of page) were 20 years of All-Star League game records and the first 29 years of the Ladies' City League records.

Other material is being assembled into various categories.

Volunteers are always welcome.

Contributions from baseball organizations, grants and individual memberships have funded this project.
