MSU, SCSU ELIMINATED IN NCAA REGIONAL

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – With one game ending at 1:30 a.m., Minnesota State-Mankato and St. Cloud State University, the No. 1 seed, both were knocked out of the NCAA Central Regional II tournament over the weekend at St. Cloud.

Winona State took out St. Cloud 7-6 in the 10-inning game ending at 1:30 a.m. Monday after Colorado Mesa State eliminated Minnesota State-Mankato 7-4.

Earlier, St. Cloud State University baseball squad lost 3-1 to No. 3 Minnesota State University, Mankato after nearly a two day rain delay in the second round of play.
Both teams were delayed Friday evening and all day Saturday, before finishing the final inning of play, as the Huskies recorded a hit but no runs in the top of the ninth.

Freshman Garrett Fischer (New Ulm) went 2-for-3 for the Huskies, who had one hit in a final inning come-back attempt.

Saturday's games were postponed until Sunday. Friday rain caused an hour delay in starting times but Central Region NCAAA II baseball playoffs continued until the St.Cloud/Mankato game was suspended in the ninth. Colorado Mesa (1-1) squeaked by Augustana (SD) 4-3. With the loss, the Augs were ousted in the double elimination tournament.

Nebraska Kearney stayed undefeated i thanks to a 10-4 win over Winona State on Sunday, May 22. The victory improves UNK's record to 2-0 in NCAA tournament play, while Winona State falls to 1-1.

Winona lead 4-1 when the game was halted for six hours and eight minutes of rain delay before resuming in the sixth. Nebraska Kearney exploded for six runs in the eighth inning to ice the contest at 10-4.

Thursday, St. Cloud State University, Nebraska-Kearney and Bemidji State scored first round wins in the NCAAA Central Regional tournament underway at St. Cloud. All three are in action again today in the double elimination tournament. The games have all been delayed an hour due to rain.

St. Cloud topped Augustana (SD) 7-1 as the No. 1 seeded team. It was the 42nd win for the Huskies. Attendance was reported at 1,108.

New Ulm's Nate Van Roekel led the charge in a Winona State 5-2 win over Colorado Mesa State in the opening game. He was 3-1-1-2. His single in the fourth chased home the eventual winning run plus an insurance counter. He also walked.

Minnesota State University meanwhile squandered a 3-1 lead by giving up four runs in the ninth inning in losing to Nebraska-Kearney 5-3.
