EXPANDED FIELD OF 16 OPENS MIDWEST CLASSIC RUN THURSDAY

Four additional teams, an expansion to four pools and an additional fourth site marks the 2011 Upper Midwest Classic American Legion tournament starting in New Ulm Friday.

Sixteen teams are now aligned in four pools in preliminary games which will end Sunday with championships and place determinations. Searles has joined Johnson Park, Mueller Park and Essig as diamonds where the games will be played.

Pools advancing first and second place teams to the championship rounds include:

A POOL -- New Ulm Gold, Plover, WI, Escanaba, MI. and Burnsville.
B POOL -- Eastview, Roseveille, Duluth Lakeview and Creighton, NE.
C POOL -- Mankato Nationals, Anoka, Moorhead, Lakeville.
D POOL -- New Ulm Blue, Sleepy Eye, Omaha, NE and Apple Valley.

Thursday's opening games at 6 and 8:30 p.m. include:

New Ulm Blue vs Sleepy Eye and New Ulm Gold vs Plover, WI at Johnson Park and
Omaha, NE vs Apple Valley and Escanaba, MI vs Burnsville at Mueller Park.

Games Friday start at 9 and 9:30 a.m.
