EAGAN BEATS 100 DEGREE HEAT AND CHASKA FOR TITLE

SLEEPY EYE --- With outstanding pitching and hitting, Eagan's Patriots romped to the District 2 VFW baseball tournament title here Sunday. The bets were on what would come first.100 degrees or an quick win for Eagan?

The game was over with the thermometer hitting somewhere between 95 and 100 (but rising) and Eagan needing only six innings to win the 10-run shortened 11-1 game

Eagan goes to the start after winning tournaments by 8-0 over Sleepy Eye, 7-1 over Fairmont, 10-0 over Chaska and then 11-1 over Chaska. That's just two runs in 25 innings.

The Pats scored in every inning but the third when Chaska got its lone run to pull within 4-1. Then Eagan got two in the fourth, three in the fifth and two in the sixth with a 13-hit attack., Chaska had two as Eagan pitchers kept the defense out of the heat with 1-2-3 innings in four of the six frames. In another, only three batted because of a pick-off on a throw from the outfield.

Five different players had doubles including Matt Fiedler and Patrick Higgins who had a single to boot. Other doubles were by Josh Loew, Collin Olstad, and Mitch Seidel. Trever Fabry had two singles.
