After two big-time close encounters Sunday, the Region 2C (Tomahawk) playoffs head down the final stretch week with four teams shooting for two state tournament spots.
Those positions will be decided (weather permitting) Friday. See brackets in attachment
Saturday Lamberton had edged Leavenworth 3-1 while Hanska rolled over Searles 10-1. Sunday Leavenworth eliminated Searles 7-5 in 12 innings while Sleepy Eye topped Lamberton 5-4 in 11.
In an unusual situation, Leavenworth won the game when Andy Cook hit a grand slam homer in the 12th to erase a one-run deficit. The home run was changed to a two-run single when Leavenworth players mobbed Cook on the bases resulting in an "out" call. Two runners, however, had crossed the plate before the out call to tie and win the game.
Another dramatic finish at Sleepy Eye saw Cody Nachreiner getting a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 11th to win it for Sleepy Eye 5-4 over Lamberton.
Tuesday Hanska plays Sleepy Eye with the winner advancing to the state. Wednesday Leavenworth and Lamberton play a loser's bracket game to set up a Friday, Aug. 12 loser's bracket game to send a survivor against Sleepy Eye at Sleepy Eye Friday for the championship.
