After their first round 8-4 MSMABA State Tournament win over Menahga, the Searles Bullheads' bats went silent, losing by scores of 1-0 to Slayton and 3-1 to the Jordan Millers in their next two games. Saturday afternoon however, the bats came alive and the Bullheads pounded out fifteen hits to defeat the Union Hill Pitbulls 14-5 for a seventh place finish in the tournament.
Kyle Messner was the winning pitcher in relief for Searles Saturday, going s6.1 innings and fanning nine. Messner also led the offense with a 4/4 - two RBI performance. Marc Max crushed a big two run double in the first, and Steve Meyer and Corey Schaefer also had two RBI games. Todd Olson, Dave Fauth, and Doug Ekstrom collected two hits apiece on the day.
In Friday night's consolation round game, Jordan's Brian Buesgens held the Bullheads to just two hits to earn the 3-1 win for the Millers. Teammate Bryon Schroeder blasted a first inning two-run homer off Searles starter and losing pitcher Terry Steinbach which proved to be the game winner for Jordan. Singles by John Giefer and Corey Schaefer were the only offense generated by Searles. Buesgens fanned only three Bullheads hitters, but got them to fly out 13 times in the game. Even the well-hit balls were hit right at the Miller's fielders all evening.
The Bullheads finish the 2011 baseball season with a 17-9 over-all record.
