ALBRECHT, PLASENCIA (HAZUKA) ADDED TO NUC HALL OF FAME

NEW ULM - Jesse Ahlbrecht and Laura (Hazuka) Plasencia will be inducted into the Cathedral High School Athletic Hall of Fame at a luncheon in their honor at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, at The Kaiserhoff.
Jesse Ahlbrecht was a two-year starter in football at tight end and defensive end. He caught 51 passes for 719 yards, and was an Honorable Mention All-Conference selection.

Albrecht was also a two-year starter in baseball where he was an outstanding defensive first baseman.
Albrecht ranks among the best centers ever to play at Cathedral. He scored 1,204 points in his career - third best in CHS boys basketball history.

Albrecht helped CHS advance to the State Boys Basketball Tournament his junior year. The team went 23-4, and won conference and section championships.

Albrecht was All-Conference as a junior and senior, and was honored as the 2000 Boys Basketball Player of the Year by both The Journal and KNUJ Radio.

Albrecht was selected as the CHS/New Ulm Club Male Athlete of the Year in 2000.

Laura (Hazuka) Plasencia was an excellent three-sport athlete, and was a rare three-year starter in three sports. She led the volleyball team in ace spikes as a senior, and was second as a junior.

In basketball, she led the team in scoring and in rebounding as a junior and as a senior. She finished her career with 776 points, 479 rebounds, and was an All-Conference player.

Her best sport was softball where she had a single season high batting average of .507, and a career batting average of .408.

Her 82 RBIs during her career rank third in CHS history. Laura was a three-time All-Conference selection, and was named to the All-State Softball Team as a junior and senior.

She was selected as the CHS/New Ulm Club Outstanding Senior Female Athlete in 2000, and was her class co-valedictorian with a 4.00 GPA.
