Bullheads get timely hits, win season opener

The difference in Sunday's 4-1 win by the visiting Searles Bullheads over the Edina Braemar Bees came down to timely hitting. Both teams received excellent pitching performances and played stellar defense. Searles however, was able to come up with the clutch hits and the Bees left the bases loaded three times stranding a total of twelve runners in the game.
Winning pitcher Brant Drill and reliever Kevin Hulke worked their way out of several Edina scoring opportunities and fanned eight.
The Bullheads took a first inning lead on a lead-off double from Craig Schmitz, a Doug Ekstrom sacrifice bunt, and a John Giefer base hit. Edina answered in the bottom of the inning with a run of its own to tie the game.
With the Bullheads clinging to a 2-1 sixth inning lead, Steve Meyer stroked a big two out two-run double to score Giefer and Hulke to provide some breathing room for Searles.
Tough luck losing pitcher Gary Fritch went the distance for Edina. He fanned eight in a row early in the game and recorded twelve total strikeouts.

The Bullheads next scheduled game is June 3rd as they host Prior Lake at 2:00PM.
