The Fischer baseball twins of New Ulm could be playing against each other in Northwoods League collegiate summer baseball this June.
Pitcher Kyle has signed with the Willmar Stringers while Garrett signed with the Mankato Moondogs. The two teams play each other Memorial Day in Willmar. The contracts are the league's temporary 10-30-day type. Contracts could be extended or ended within 10 days to allow them to finish the summer with the amateur New Ulm Brewers. The Moondogs called Garret to fill in for the first two weeks since some of the regularly planned outfielders won't return to Mankato right away. He could be back with the Brewers as early as June 12th.
Garrett signed after earning all-tournament honors in the recently completed Division II Central regional playoffs in Mankato. He was 11-23 with two doubles and three stolen bases. He just recently (yesterday) received a call from the Moondogs and was offered a “temp” contract for 10 to 30 days, just like Kyle at Willmar Some of the regular outfielders won’t be back right away and they called Garrett to fill in the first two weeks. We will see what happens then, he very well could be released and back home for the Brewers by June 12th, who knows.
Should both play Memorial Day at Willmar, it will be the first time they will face each other in organized competition.
