New Ulm Gold, Three Metro Teams Saturday Reach Finals with semi finals Sunday, July 8th
New Ulm Gold Saturday came back from a five-run deficit to edge Renner SD in its final pool game to become one of the four semi-finalists who play for the championship Sunday. Gold meets Roseville at 9:30 while Burnsville plays Eastview Thunder at noon with the two winners deciding the tournament title after the second game. All are Metro area teams except New Ulm.
Eastview went into the eighth inning before squeezing home the winning run after a walk, sacrifice and then a passed ball put the deciding run on third base where a 2-2 pitch turned into the perfect squeeze.
New Ulm was down 5-0 with Renner, SD scoring in the second, third and sixth innings. Then a three-run shot by Jason Shaul cleared the right-field fence and set up the winning run in the seventh. The seventh featured three regular walks, another intentional walk, a force at the plate and then Erich Prokosh nailing a single to right to bring in Tim Kehren who had been intentionally walked to load the bases. An error in center brought in the tying runs to set up the comeback victory.
Saturday's exciting baseball also produced a five-inning perfect game by Chase Bosshart of Burnsville against New Ulm Blue at Johnson Park and then a five-inning no-hitter by Austin Kost of Sioux Falls East at Mueller Park.
