NUSC recording of Saturday's athletic events raised the bar on detail coverage for New Ulm sports.
Each of seven scheduled events were reported by a game write-up, full-blow detailed stats, and an accompanying photograph. In these days of incomplete and sometimes non-existent sports results, having a perfect day with so many events is a proud achievement.
All the material was submitted by Martin Luther College and made possible by the technology that allows reports from the away and home sites to be transmitted to the school's sports information office electronically live and capped off with the full "box scores". Some also included additional links to conference activities.
NUSC linked all the details to the scores it reported in its daily scoreboard (tab at top of yellow banner) and brought the viewer to directly to the MLC site which reported those events. A program called "Stat Crew" probably was involved in most of the reports. Reports became available late Saturday from three states.
The detailed coverage included the Upper Midwest Conference three-day golf meet finals from Bemidji, the school's football game at Eureka, IL, Men's and women's cross country from Waverly, IA as well as home matches for men's and women's soccer and volleyball. The data is automatically forwarded to the Upper Midwest conference which compiles the league stats and individual awards on a weekly basis.
The editor regretfully withholds any comments for the lack of reporting from some local high school and summer baseball teams except to say that local high school athletes are often deprived of exposure to college recruiters scouring electronic media looking for academic and atheltic prospects.
