MLC's basketball Knights spun a major upset in New Ulm Monday, Dec. 10 when it beat St. John's University of Collegeville 76-63 for their first win of the season. The St. John's team was the varsity and not a JV or B team.
St.John's has been noted as a perennial basketball power among Minnesota Colleges of the MAIC alignment.

NEW ULM, Minn. – Saint John's shot 36.4 percent (24-for-66) in a 76-63 non-conference loss at Martin Luther on Monday, Dec. 10, in New Ulm.
The Johnnies (2-5, 2-2 MIAC) missed 17 three-pointers (4-for-21) and shot 52.4 percent (11-for-21) at the free-throw line.
Junior Seth Marx (Maple Grove, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's) led SJU with 19 points and classmate Kevin McKenzie (De Pere, Wis./Notre Dame Academy) added 11. The rest of the Johnnies shot 13-for-42 (31.0 percent) from the field and 0-for-10 from beyond the arc.
Galen Holzhueter led all scorers with 29 points and collected 11 rebounds for the Knights (1-6, 0-0 UMAC), who out-rebounded the visitors 47-37.
SJU held a 34-33 lead at the half, but MLC shot 46.4 percent (13-for-28) in the second half and out-scored the Johnnies 27-16 in the final 11:37.
The Johnnies return home for another non-conference game against Minnesota Morris on Thursday, Dec. 13. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. at Sexton Arena in Collegeville.
