The Madison WI Times website reported Monday evening "It wasn’t easy, but Lakeside Lutheran boys basketball coach Jim Bauer earned his 500th career victory Monday night in Lake Mills.

After scoring. 52 points in the first two periods, the host Warriors let a 13-point halftime lead evaporate in the third quarter, but finally rallied for an 84-79 victory over Evansville WI.

Ed. Note: The article reported Bauer has been coaching at Lakeside since 1981. However, he actually coached at MVL starting in 1981 and had a 17-year career ending after 1998 season. He compiled a 274-143 record there.

Luther College and MVL representatives including his two third place Minnesota state tournament teams were in the stands for the 500th win.

The 1987 boy's team was first to reach the state and was followed 10 years later by another squad. Several girls teams also qualified for the state tournament.

Bauer joins another Dr. Martin Luther College graduate, Dale Walz, in the 500 circle.
