New Ulm's 6-0 win over Hanska Friday night clinched the first seed in the Region 2C playoffs and set up a deciding game between Hanska and Lamberton to determine the second and third seeds to advance to the state tournament. It took 11 innings for Hanska to eke out a 4-3 win and earn the second seed.
The three teams previously qualified for the state amateur baseball tournament with wins in the league's round robin playoff schedule Tuesday night. All then moved to 3-0 with the three 0-3 teams being eliminated. Then in games Wednesday evening, New Ulm stopped Lamberton 11-0. Essig beat Stark 5-1 in a game with no playoff bearing.
Hanska (3-1) has a game remaining with Lamberton (3-1) Saturday night. A New Ulm win Friday gives the Lamberton and Hanska would continue to fight for second seed with 3-1 records.
Final games determine the seeding position for the state tournament as well as the drafting priority to allow each qualifier to add one additional pitcher. This year only pitchers are eligible for drafting by the state tournament entrants. Winners have already made one selection.
