A combination of exemplary dedication and simultaneous excellence qualified inductee Doug Bode into the New Ulm Amateur Hall of Fame.

After he compiled merely average statistics in high school and Legion baseball, Bode went on to become a career .300 hitter in 11 seasons with the Brewers and Kaiserhoff.

A catcher, Bode played for the Kaiserhoff in 1969 and then with the Brewers for the rest of his career, except in 1977 when the Brewer team took a one-year leave of absence.

Bode was a member of the 1971 and 1972 Brewer state tournament teams.

He compiled a lifetime .302 average in 238 games and 847 at-bats.  He had 39 doubles, 12 triples and seven home runs.

Twice Bode had five hits. On June 15, 1973 he had five hits and three doubles against Courtland, while he also recorded five hits on June 26, 1976 against Madelia. In six of his seasons he batted over .300, with a high of .375 in 22 games during the 1973 season.

Bode was the catcher for the 1967 state championship VFW team, and he played three years each for the New Ulm High School and Legion teams.
