          Dick Cordes didn't win a game until his third season, but from then on this pitcher's wins and strikeouts became legendary.

          Normal narrative could not detail this Hall of Famer's accomplishments in the space available. A list of achievements might include the following statistics:

          *Holds the all-time record for strikeout average over a single season with 19.5 strikeouts per nine inning game in 1966; second all-time with 16.3 in 1967; third all-time with 15.9 in 1965; sixth all-time with 14.4 in 1964.

          *Holds the record for total strike-outs in season with 194 strikeouts in 1964 and 167 in 1967.

          *Recorded 613 strikeouts in 347 career innings.

          *Posted the all-time best season strikeouts-to-walks ratio with 4 strikeouts for every walk (134-30) in 1966.

          *Finished with a career strikeouts-to-walks ratio of 3-1 (613-209).

          *Posted a career ERA of 2.15.

          *Finished fifth all-time in New Ulm history in lowest hits given up per game: 3.92, 9th in 1967 with 4.29, 10th in 1964 with 4.31 and 16th in 1965 with 5.58 (best record was 4.75).

          *Played on four Tomahawk regular season championship teams, four playoff champions, one regional champion, and two state tournament teams.

          *Holds the all-time strike-out record for a single game with 24 on June 20, 1967.

          *Posted career records of 3-3 at New Ulm High School and 8-5 with the New Ulm Legion team and an ERA under 3.0 for both teams.

          *Later played and coached at Springfield.
