Wally Ebert started his
career with the New Ulm Millers in 1943. He moved up to the Brewers
for the following year and played with the Brewers for 10 years until 1952.
Ebert then returned to finish his career with the Millers for
the 1953 and 1954
seasons. He always played first base.
Wally was a member of the
1947 and 1949 Brewers state tournament teams. His Brewers also won
the championship of the Western
Minnesota League in 1946 and 1948 and the championship of the Tomahawk
League in 1953.
Ebert was known for his
home-run swing which produced 21 career homers and over 200 career
strike-outs. He also was famous for doing the "splits"
while fielding at first base. His best
seasons as a Brewer were in 1948 and '49, when he hit .277 and .252 with
five homeruns in each year. Ebert batted .378 and .300 in his final two
seasons
with New Ulm Millers and had slugging average of .800 with 1953
Millers.
