Jerry Fesenmaier was a home-grown catcher
who played in the 1950s when New Ulm
baseball still drew some big crowds. Jerry spent two years with
the Millers in the Tomahawk League and then four seasons with
the Brewers.
Fesenmaier's
skills caught the attention of the Brooklyn Dodgers' organization,
and
he signed a pro contract in 1956. A year later he returned to New
Ulm and hit safely in 20 of 25 games.
In 1958
Jerry batted .312 for the Brewers of a Minnesota River League which
was loaded with outstanding pitching. The Brewers won the league
title in both 1957 and 1958 with Fesenmaier as catcher.
Jerry
played three seasons for Cathedral high school and two years of
Legion Baseball.
