          Steve Janni was recognized as an outstanding hitter and catcher over five seasons with the New Ulm Brewers. 

          As a hitter, Janni averaged better than 1.5 hits and one RBI per game --- in 105 games he had 147 hits (.373 average) and drove in 112 runs.  He pounded out 24 doubles, seven triples, and 17 home runs.  Steve struck out only 27 times in 394 career at-bats, while he walked 58 times.

         Janni batted .429 over three seasons for the New Ulm High School baseball team and had a .351 average over three seasons of Legion baseball. 

         After one year at Allen Community College in Kansas, Janni played three seasons at Mankato State University.
