A rare,
12-win season during a state championship year and a string of 10
seasons have enabled Larry Jensen to be selected to the New Ulm
Baseball Hall of
Fame.
Jensen
won 12 games in the 1980 season, including two wins in the state
tournament when the Kaiserhoff won the state championship. He was named to the
all-tournament team and posted a 1.51 earned run average that season.
Larry
played with the Kaiserhoff from 1972 through 1983, except for several
years of pro ball in the Cincinnati farm system. After he returned
from pro ball, he compiled a 19-6 record, averaged better than a strikeout per inning, and had a 1.87 ERA.
In all,
Jensen played in 151 games and pitched 105 times, with overall 40-17
record and a career 2.68 ERA.
Larry was also part of New Ulm history at the plate. Only once in
New Ulm's baseball history have three consecutive batters hit home
runs, and Jensen's his blow against Fairfax on Aug. 7, 1975 at Johnson Park
followed shots from Ron Schmidt and Dan Hirth.
In high
school Larry had a 1.70 ERA and an 8-3 record. In Legion ball he was
7-3 with an 1.11 ERA.
Jensen
pitched for Mankato State and signed a pro contract in 1977.
