Jeff Keckeisen played nine seasons of amateur
baseball in New Ulm -- four years for the Kaiserhoff and five for
the Brewers.
Although Keckeisen was known
primarily as a pitcher and outfielder, he also managed the Brewers
in 1985 and was co-manager in 1986.
The
highlight of Keckeisen's career may have been the 1980 state
championship season for the Kaiserhoff, as he saw action as a pitcher
in 13 of the 35 games. Keckeisen threw a complete game win over St.
Peter in the league title series. In all, he pitched 60 innings that
season.
The
best all-around season for Keckeisen was 1983, when he went 7-3 on
the mound with a 3.30 ERA and hit .377 with 23 hits in 61 times at
bat. He struck out just six times.
Keckeisen started playing amateur baseball as a high
school junior. He also played three seasons of high school varsity
ball and two summers of Legion ball.
A right-hander, he was known both for his bulldog attitude on the mound
and for being a workhorse, as he threw over 90 innings in four
different seasons. As a hitter, 40 percent of his hits went
for extra bases.
