Lifetime Baseball Batting Stats Page

Douglas Kusste was a good hitting infielder in New Ulm baseball from the mid 1930's through the 1940's. He now is a permanent resident of a nursing home in St. Paul.

Kusske played New Ulm High School and American Legion baseball, and he later moved up to the old New Ulm Hawks of the Tomahawk League.

When the New Ulm Brewers were formed in 1939, Doug was a member of that team, which was the first New Ulm team to make it to the state tournament. He played for the 1940 Western Minnesota League playoff champions, and in 1941 he was a member of the Class A and mythical state champion Brewers.

A career highlight was hitting two home runs against Springfield on Sept. 4, 1941 in the Western Minnesota League.

Kusske finished his playing days with a career .294 batting average and a consistent .430 slugging average. He played in 99 amateur games. In high school he batted .385 over four years.
