New Ulm HALL OF FAME Member
Theodore (T") Manderfeld
Non-Player (Board Member)
Selected 1993
T.W. Manderfeld, always known as "T", was a
first and foremost a baseball fan,
and he was a factor in the early financial success of the New Ulm
baseball program in the 1940's.
Manderfeld was an avid fan of the
semi-pro baseball played here in the 1920's and early 30's at the
Brown County fairgrounds. He then became one of the first members of
the board of directors
when the New Ulm Baseball Association was formed in 1939. Theo was elected vice president that
year, but he quickly took over the operation of the concessions
program. When
he wasn't delivering rural mail, he worked hard to develope that financial aspect of
the baseball program .
Manderfeld served 13 years on the New
Ulm Baseball Association board from 1939 to 1951.
Three of his
Theo's sons played high school, American
Legion, and New Ulm Brewers' baseball in those early 1940's. Stan
Manderfeld continued to play
throughout the late 1940's, while Ted and Ray had retired from the game
by then and involved themselves in various Legion and amateur
tournaments and activities. A fourth son, Jack, did not play ball.
