New Ulm HALL OF FAME Member
Duane (Bud) Richter
Non-Player (Officer, Director)
Selected 1991
Richter started his career as a scoreboard operator and
advanced to the job of treasurer and the longest term on the board
of directors. This service prompted the selection of Duane (Bud) Richter to
the New Ulm Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame.
Bud served 23
consecutive years on the board, the longest term for any individual
in the 52-year history of the New Ulm Baseball Association.
Richter was
elected to the board in 1965 and served as secretary for four years,
as Vice
President in 1970, and then as treasurer from 1971 to 1987. The
string of 17 years is the longest anyone has held the office of
treasurer in Association
history.
Because of his position as treasurer, Richter was usually involved
in jobs related to finances, including those in
concessions relating to finance.
For many
years, Richter was the scorer and PA announcer both in games here and for
other out-of-town events in baseball.
He served
as a league representative, and he
continued to be involved in state tournament bids after he retired
from the board. Richter served
as treasurer for Johnson Park's 50th Anniversary Commemoration
and also personally supported other baseball
activities.
As
a
youngster, Richter played on three New Ulm midget and junior teams which
reached the finals of state tournaments.
