The mark of a champion was written all over inductee Ron Schmidt during his New Ulm baseball career.

A graduate of Fairfax high school and college player at St. Cloud State, he was described as a natural leader displaying all-out effort on the field at all times. A versatile player, he played all nine positions at one time during his five-year career.

As a switch hitter, Schmidt batted .365 with a .566 slugging average including 42 doubles, 13 triples, and 14 homers. In 136 games he reached the 200-hit plateau.

Schmidt follows brother Neil into the Hall of Fame ranks and managed the 1974 Brewers (17-13) who tied for the Tomahawk regular season title.

During his career, his New Ulm team won or tied for the regular season title. In four years the team won the league playoffs and three times the team advanced to the state tournament.

Memorable games included: 7-7-74 when he had a double, a grand slam and six RBI's in a pitching win; 5-72-72 when he hit for the cycle against Searles; 8-7-75 when he was part of a trio who hit three consecutive homers vs. Fairfax at Johnson Park.
