Although he was originally from Iron Mountain, Michigan, Bob
Schultz came to New Ulm via
pro ball and Redwood Falls of the Western Minnesota League. He
later made his home in New Ulm, where he played six years and
compiled some awesome statistics. Bob was mostly an outfielder,
but he also played some third base until he finished his career at first
base.
Schultz played
with the 1957 and 1958 Minnesota River League regular season
champion Brewers. He won league batting title in 1958.
Bob almost
always batted in the clean-up spot and compiled a career slugging
average of over .500, while driving in 153 runs in the 153 games he
played for the Brewers.
His career
batting average was .311 with a slugging percentage of .513. His 26 home runs
included seven in 1956. Most of his homers were power shots over
the right-field wall, as he was a left-handed hitter.
Schultz's best
season as a Brewer was 1958, when he batted .379 with a .589 slugging
average.
