New Ulm HALL OF FAME Member
Frank (Count) Tauscheck
Non-Player - President
Selected 1989
Frank (Count) Tauscheck was honored by being
selected to inaugural group of New Ulm Baseball Hall of Fame
inductees during Johnson Park's 50th Anniversary celebration in
1989.
Tauscheck was nominated for the leadership he provided in the early
years of the NUBA. He served 10 1/2 years as a member of the
association and as its president. He was the chairman of the
1941 and the 1944 state amateur tournaments in New Ulm. The
first night state tournament game was played in New Ulm in 1941.
Count was in charge of negotiating contracts and signing the
hired ballplayers in the 1940's.
As a bowling enthusiast, he was a leader in the top-ranked City
League at Concordia for a long time and for two years averaged
over 200, rolling what at the time was the city high of 712 in
one series.
Tauscheck believed it was his duty to serve his community, prompting him
to hold various offices in civic groups and led to his
participation in community activities whenever needed.
He was a member of the board of directors of the Businessmen's
Association and later the New Ulm Chamber of Commerce.
During that time he was chairman of the float committee of two
anniversary celebrations and much of the success of the parades
was due to his interests and efforts.
As a member of the board of the Brown County Agricultural Society, he chaired the concessions for the annual county fair in New Ulm.
Additionally, he belonged to the Lions Club and was on the board
for a time; the St. Patrick's Council, Knights of Columbus and
St. Joseph Benevolent Society.
Death cut short his contributions when he died in 1950 at only 50 years
of age. An editorial wrote, "Frank Tauscheck had the rare
ability of touching with success every activity which absorbed
his interest. For 28 years he was a well-known figure on
our business street."
A St. Thomas graduate, he moved to New
Ulm from Lafayette township and for a
number of years was a
bookkeeper for Stuebe Brothers, a New Ulm produce firm. He, B. C. Schueller, and Leo P. Schueller formed a
partnership for a clothing store in 1922. In 1924 the store became Tauscheck & Green,
when Ben Green replaced the Schuellers. The
store retained the name when two sons and a son-in-law of
Ben Green became owners on Green's death.
Tauscheck was born March 30, 1900 and died April 9, 1950.
