Vernon Wieland was honored by being selected to inaugural group of inductees to the New Ulm Baseball Hall of Fame during Johnson Park's 50th Anniversary celebration in 1989.

Wieland exemplified dedication and longevity as a player. In addition to a noteworthy career on the field, he has been a local umpire for over 40 years. He played six seasons with the New Ulm Brewers and seven years with the Millers, where he was primarily an outfielder and pitcher.

After he retired from playing, Wieland managed the 1953 Tomahawk League champion Millers. In 210 games for his career, he had six homeruns, five triples, 16 doubles, and 80 RBI. He was 5-5 as a pitcher in 21 games.
