          In only three years of amateur baseball, Kevin Wilner compiled the greatest batting records in New Ulm baseball history.

          The pitcher-outfielder batted .494, .417 and .508 in his three seasons, averaged almost two hits per game, and finished with a a career batting average of .476 for 59 games. In 1979 he hit safely in each of the 22 games in which he played.

          His astronomical slugging average of .833 over his career may be the all-time best.

          In 1979 Wilner hit two home runs in two different games, and he accomplished this same feat a third time the following year. Three times in his career he had six runs batted in for a single game, and in 1980 he hammered out five hits in a game against Redwood Falls. In a 1979 game he also recorded two triples.

          As a pitcher, Kevin recorded 17 strikeouts against in a game against Star, 15 against St. James, and he posted 195 strikeouts in 159 innings for his career.  His ERA for the three seasons was 1.17, 2.77, and 2.86. He was drafted twice in two of his three years.

          Wilner played part of the 1980 season in the PONY professional league and managed the 1981 Brewers (14-8).  His college career included two years at Willmar Junior College and two years at New Mexico State where he was a Division II All-American.

          At New Ulm High School, Kevin batted .337 and had a 9-5 pitching record with a 1.13 ERA. In Legion ball he batted .393 and had a 2.57 ERA with a 4-5 record.
