Although Paul Wyczawski was inducted into the player category of
the New Ulm Baseball Hall of Fame, he also
managed the New Ulm Legion team in 1980 and 1981. He also served as
head baseball coach at Peru State and Yankton College and was a
graduate assistant at Mississippi State. In recent years, he has
been the head coach at a very successful Hillcrest Academy School in
Mississippi.
Wyczawski played with Essig of Tomahawk League in Minnesota after
high school and also some amateur baseball in Sioux Falls, S. D.,
while attending Creighton and South Dakota State.
Paul got
also around
during his college days. He played one year for Creighton
University, one year for St. John’s, and two years for South Dakota
State.
Wyczawski
played six seasons with the New Ulm Brewers and posted a career batting
average of .345. In his first four seasons, he batted .429, .333, .304
and .397. In 121 games, Paul had 61 RBIs, batted .345, struck out only
52 times, drew 106 walks, and stole 90 bases.
