Robert Aufderheide was a long-time player who started playing
baseball in the 1930s with New Ulm teams at the
fairgrounds. He went on to play for the Brewers and Millers from 1939 to 1952.
Robert mostly played as a second baseman, but he also managed the Millers in 1948,
a year in which they became the Tomahawk
League champions.
Aufderheide's best season was 1950, when he hit .441 for the New Ulm Millers.
He played on the 1939 and
1941 Brewer state tournament teams, and that 1941 Brewer team won
the state championship. Aufderheide was a member of seven teams who won league
playoff titles. Military service in WWII interrupted his career.
Robert played both American Legion baseball and at New Ulm High School.
His brother
Jack is also a member of the New Ulm Hall of Fame, and his father Karl was active in
the early
1940s in the New Ulm Baseball Association.
